What is Gospel Therapy®?

Gospel Therapy® is a one of a kind, intimate choral experience.  It is singing therapy at its best! Singers gather in an intimate setting to learn and sing some of the most culturally rich, spiritually dense, soul-stirring music ever created.  Black Gospel.

Did you know that there are various sub-genres of gospel music? Black Gospel, Appalachian Gospel, Southern Gospel and Messianic Gospel are just a few examples.

What is Black Gospel?

Black Gospel music is deeply rooted in the rich traditions of the Black American church.  This musical genre was and is written to express personal and communal belief regarding Black American Christian life.

Between the 1930’s and 1940’s, the shift from Negro Spirituals to Black Gospel became evident via religious songs being recorded during that time.  Enter Thomas A. Dorsey; blues musician turned gospel music minister.  Nicknamed the Father of Gospel, Dorsey was a key figure in the development of black gospel music in Chicago, IL  at Pilgrim Baptist Church.

Why Black Gospel?

Black Gospel music was born out of unbearable trials and tribulations, suffering and perseverance.  Although the world’s mentality is to avoid tribulation and suffering at all costs, the truth is, as long as we live on this Earth we are guaranteed to face adversity from all sides.  But now there is “GOOD NEWS”!  Apostle Paul wrote:

And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, HOPE: And HOPE maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. (Romans 5:3-5)

High quality gospel music is infused with the power, faith, hope and love of the Holy Spirit!!!
